The Verdict

Frenchie is ENFP. He builds weapons in a cluttered workshop with genuine pleasure, generates solutions to impossible problems before anyone has finished describing them, and carries more guilt than anyone on the team about the things the Ne's rapid generation has cost the specific people in its path. His past - the surveillance job on Lamplighter, Grace Mallory's grandchildren - is the inferior Si's most complete available portrait: what the dominant function's most natural operation produces when it runs ahead of the accounting the inferior function will eventually require.

Frenchie and the ENFP Mind

Frenchie is ENFP. The type is defined by a hierarchy of cognitive functions - not a checklist of traits but an ordered stack of mental processes that determines how someone perceives the world and how they make decisions. For Frenchie, that stack leads with Ne (Extraverted Intuition) and is supported by Fi (Introverted Feeling). Understanding that order explains not just what Frenchie does but why - and why they respond the way they do under pressure, in relationships, and at the turning points of their arc.

Frenchie is driven by Ne (Extraverted Intuition) - a perpetual enthusiasm for what could be, what connections nobody else has made yet, and what possibilities the current moment contains. Fi (Introverted Feeling) as the auxiliary anchors this in genuine personal values: Frenchie is not merely interested in possibilities - they care about which ones actually matter. The result is a character who is warm, creatively generative, and capable of real depth - but who struggles with the gap between enthusiasm and follow-through, and between the vision and the structure required to realise it. The inferior Si (Introverted Sensing) is the recurring liability: Frenchie tends to undervalue the past, the established, the routine, and the accumulated - and pays for it regularly.

What makes Frenchie a compelling example of ENFP is not that they demonstrate every item on the type description, but that the function stack holds under pressure. In the moments that define their story in The Boys (Amazon Prime) - the decisions under stress, the failures of judgment, the rare moments of genuine growth - the pattern is consistent. The dominant function is what Frenchie reaches for first. The inferior function is what catches them off guard.

How ENFP Processes the World

Every ENFP operates through the same hierarchy of cognitive functions. Here is how that stack maps onto how Frenchie actually thinks, decides, and acts.

Dominant
Ne Extraverted Intuition
Possibility generation. Connects unrelated ideas, sees multiple angles, and thrives on what could be rather than what is.
Auxiliary
Fi Introverted Feeling
Deep personal value framework. Judges from within, holds firm convictions about what is authentic and what is not.
Tertiary
Te Extraverted Thinking
Systematic external organisation. Moves from conclusion to plan to execution; measures effectiveness by results.
Inferior
Si Introverted Sensing
Accumulated experience as a reference library. Notices what changed, what was promised, what the precedent established.

Frenchie: What the ENFP Profile Explains

Frenchie builds weapons in a workshop full of things he has found useful and things he has not yet found a use for. The Ne generates the most available novel application for whatever material the current situation provides, the Ti confirms the internal consistency, and the result is an improvised instrument that solves the specific problem more completely than a conventional approach would have. This is how he thinks about everything - operational problems, relationships, his own past. He generates the most available angle, the Ti confirms it, and he delivers it before the inferior Si has accumulated adequate evidence about the cost.

The cost is Grace Mallory's grandchildren. He was supposed to watch Lamplighter. He left his post because the Ne had generated a more interesting available configuration and the Ti confirmed it, and Lamplighter burned Mallory's grandchildren while Frenchie was somewhere else. He has been carrying this for years. The inferior Si accumulated the record of what the generation cost. The record is specific and he cannot revise it. The Catholic guilt and the confessional instinct - the bond with Starlight over faith, the conviction that he is not worth being forgiven - is the inferior function finally having the weight to give the dominant function pause.

His relationship with Kimiko is the Fe auxiliary at its most complete. He reads her - the specific person who cannot speak, who communicates through action and sign language and the specific quality of how she inhabits a room - with unusual accuracy. He responds to what he reads rather than to what he wishes she were. The warmth is real and it is calibrated to the specific person rather than to a general idea of what warmth should look like.

Frenchie: ENFP Letter by Letter

EExtraverted

He thinks out loud. His workshop is the most visible expression of this - it is the physical exterior of the Ne's operation, the accumulated material of every interesting application that has been generated and not yet fully deployed. He cannot generate in isolation. He generates through engagement with the available material and the available people, and the generation is always externalised before it is complete.

NiNtuitive

He identifies the most novel available application for whatever the current situation provides faster than anyone else on the team. The improvised weapons, the unusual tactical approaches, the specific solution to whatever the specific problem is - all Ne generating the most available interesting alternative before the conventional analysis has produced its first candidate. Butcher recruited him specifically because this capability is irreplaceable. No one else on the team has it.

FFeeling

His friendship with Kimiko is the clearest portrait of the Fe in operation. He read her from the beginning - the specific person underneath the weapon Vought made her into - and he has been responding to what he found ever since. He teaches her sign language. He watches movies with her. He learns what she needs from each specific interaction rather than managing the relationship from a general idea of what she should need. The Fe reads the specific person. Frenchie has always read Kimiko specifically.

PPerceiving

He was supposed to watch Lamplighter. He did not watch Lamplighter. The Ne generated a more interesting available configuration and he went toward it, and the inferior Si had not accumulated adequate evidence about what leaving would cost before the cost had already been produced. This is the Perceiving disposition's most honest available failure portrait: the dominant function followed the most interesting available direction, and the inferior function is still building the record of what following it required.

Why Frenchie Is ENFP, Not ENTP or INFP

Frenchie is sometimes typed ENTP - the apparent intellectual pleasure in the improvised solutions and the range of the creative engagement. The distinction is the Fe: Frenchie's warmth and his connection to the people around him is primary and genuine, not a strategic social operation. He bonds with Starlight over Catholicism not because bonding serves the mission but because the Fe read what she was carrying and responded to it. ENTP's Ti is primary; Frenchie's Fe auxiliary shapes the direction of every engagement.

ESFP is argued because of the physical expressiveness and the apparent present-tense energy. The Ne is the distinguishing feature. Frenchie does not inhabit the present moment and respond to what it contains. He generates novel applications for what the present moment contains, which is a different operation. The workshop is ENFP, not ESFP.

The ENFP Personality

Energetic, expressive, and deeply idealistic. ENFPs see possibility everywhere and in everyone. Their challenge is focus - their enthusiasm is real but broad.
