Irene Adler is ENTJ. She is the only person in the Conan Doyle canon who outmanoeuvres Sherlock Holmes, and she does it not through superior deduction but through strategic intelligence of a different order: she understands that he will analyse the situation, so she provides him with an analysis that leads where she wants him to go. Her Ne-Ti combination generates the costume, the false fire alarm, the specific sequence that produces Holmes checking the concealed photograph. Her defeat in Conan Doyle's version - the photograph finally retrieved - comes from the ENTP's inferior Si: she kept the photograph because she believed the relationship with the King had sufficient ongoing value to warrant the leverage. The inferior Si underestimated how thoroughly the King's marriage had changed his assessment of what the photograph's existence cost. She held on when the Ti framework would have told her to release. That is the type's most characteristic loss: overvaluing the specific attachment at the moment when the analytical framework says to let it go.
Why Irene Adler Is ENTJ, Not INTJ or ESTJ
Irene is sometimes typed INTJ - the comprehensive plan, the private strategy, the patient management of the Holmes investigation. But INTJ builds the plan in advance and executes it systematically. Irene reads the situation and generates the angle in real time. The fire alarm is not planned before Holmes arrives; it is generated from the assessment of Holmes's presence. That real-time generation is Ne, not Ni.
The INFJ argument comes from her apparent depth and the sense that she sees Holmes more completely than anyone else. But INFJ's Ni synthesises the pattern into a comprehensive portrait.
