Tom Ripley is INTJ without empathy or remorse. Why Tom Ripley Is INTJ, Not INFJ or ENTJ
Ripley is sometimes typed ISTP - the tactical intelligence, the physical competence in the murders, the apparent present-tense adaptability. But ISTP is Ti-Se: the framework is primary and it is immediate. Ripley's synthesis is Ni: it was built before the action began, extended to account for new variables as they arrive, maintained across decades with a consistency no present-tense framework could sustain. He does not respond to situations; he has already synthesised the situations before they occur and implemented the response through Te before the situation has finished developing.
The ENTJ argument comes from the institutional construction - the Ripley identity, the house, the careful management of his position in Atrani. But ENTJ builds institutions to inhabit them as their natural domain. Ripley builds the framework and then conceals himself within it. The institution is a container for the synthesis's concealment, not the Te's primary output. An ENTJ would have needed the institution to be visible. Ripley needs it to be invisible.
