Martouf
Martouf is INFJ. JR Bourne played the Tok'ra operative who hosts the symbiote Lantash and who arrives in Stargate SG-1 carrying a grief nobody else can share: his mate Jolinar of Malkshur died inside Samantha Carter, and Carter kept her memories. So he is looking at a woman who remembers loving him and is not the person who did. He is then turned into a za'tarc, programmed to kill the President, and Carter is the one who has to shoot him.
Who Is Martouf?
Martouf is a member of the Tok'ra in Stargate SG-1, played by JR Bourne across the show's early seasons. The Tok'ra are Goa'uld who reject the practice of taking hosts by force; their symbiotes and hosts share a body by consent, as genuine partners. Martouf's symbiote is called Lantash, and the two of them are effectively a single character with two voices, which the show uses well.
His importance to the story comes from a relationship that ended before he appears. He was the mate of Jolinar of Malkshur, another Tok'ra, for over a century. Jolinar's final host was Samantha Carter - briefly, and against Carter's will, and Jolinar died there. What Carter is left with is a residue of Jolinar's memories and feelings, which means that when Martouf meets her she recognises him with an intimacy that belongs to someone else. Jack O'Neill, in the way of the show, calls him Marty.
How does Martouf die?
He is made into a za'tarc. The Goa'uld develop a technique for capturing a person, implanting a compulsion to carry out an assassination, and wiping any memory of the procedure, so the victim has no idea what has been done to them and passes every honest denial. Martouf is programmed to kill the President of the United States, and when the conditioning triggers, Samantha Carter is the person who has to put him down with a zat gun. Lantash survives the host's death and is later transferred in an emergency into Lieutenant Kevin Elliot. It is one of the bleakest things the series does to a recurring character, and it is done to the gentlest one.

Martouf is dominant Ni carrying a life that has already been read to its end. A Tok'ra host lives with a symbiote that holds centuries of memory, and Martouf's relationship with time is correspondingly long: he thinks in terms of the war against the Goa'uld as a project spanning generations, and he is patient in a way that visibly frustrates the humans he works with. He is also, from his first appearance, a man who knows how his own story goes and is proceeding through it anyway.
The auxiliary Fe is what makes him the emotional centre of every episode he is in. His attention is on other people almost to a fault - on Carter, on the alliance, on holding together a relationship between two species that keep failing to trust each other. He is the Tok'ra who does the work of being liked, because somebody has to, and because he genuinely cares whether it holds.
Why is Martouf's relationship with Samantha Carter so painful?
Because it is Fe presented with a connection it cannot have and cannot stop reaching for. Carter has Jolinar's memories of a century with him. She is not Jolinar, does not love him, and cannot honestly tell him the feelings are hers. He knows all of this and keeps showing up anyway. The tertiary Ti is visible in how carefully he reasons about the alliance and its risks, and the inferior Se in the manner of his death: the one thing this stack handles worst is a sudden physical event with no interior warning, and the za'tarc conditioning is precisely a compulsion installed below the level where any amount of insight could find it.
Martouf: INFJ Letter by Letter
He carries the loss quietly and never makes it anyone else's problem, least of all Carter's. The most significant relationship in his life is one he cannot discuss with the only person who has any access to it, and he simply lives with that.
He thinks in centuries because he shares a body with something that has lived them. His arguments for the Tok'ra approach are always about where a course of action leads over generations, which is why they land badly on people planning a mission for next Tuesday.
He does the relational work that the alliance depends on and that nobody else on his side is willing to do. His whole function in the series is to be the Tok'ra who is reachable, and it is genuine rather than diplomatic.
He is committed and settled - to the Tok'ra cause, to the alliance, to a version of a relationship that will never be returned. Once he has taken a position he holds it, and the tragedy is that the thing that finally moved him was installed in his head without his knowledge.
Why Martouf Is INFJ, Not INFP or INTJ
INFP is the most common alternative, given the gentleness and the obvious depth of feeling. The difference is direction. An Fi-dominant character measures situations against a private standard and withdraws when it is violated. Martouf's attention runs outward continuously - to Carter, to the alliance, to the war - and his distress is consistently about connection and its failure rather than about personal integrity.
ISFJ is occasionally suggested because of the loyalty and the sense of duty. But he is not working from accumulated procedure or precedent. He operates on a long-range view of a war that will outlast him and makes decisions on the basis of where it leads, which is Ni first rather than Si.
