Jacob Carter
Jacob Carter is ESTJ. Carmen Argenziano played Samantha Carter's father in Stargate SG-1: a major general in the US Air Force, terminally ill with cancer, and entirely unimpressed by his daughter's career choices. The show's solution is one of its best ideas. He is offered his life back on condition that he share his body with an alien symbiote, and he takes the deal, becomes host to the Tok'ra Selmak, and spends his remaining years as the working link between Earth and the only allies it has.
Who Is Jacob Carter?
Major General Jacob Carter is Samantha Carter's father in Stargate SG-1, played by Carmen Argenziano across most of the show's run. He is career Air Force, senior enough to have had a hand in getting his daughter into the programme in the first place, and the relationship between them is written with a specific kind of friction: two people who love each other, are extremely alike, and have spent decades failing to say anything about either.
He is introduced dying. The cancer is terminal, there is nothing conventional medicine can do, and the resolution comes from the one direction he does not know exists - his daughter's classified work. The Tok'ra, a faction of the parasitic Goa'uld who take hosts only by consent and oppose their own species, need a host. He needs to not die.
What happens to Jacob Carter?
He blends with Selmak, one of the oldest and most respected of the Tok'ra, and the arrangement cures him. From that point he is two people in one body, and the show gets a great deal out of the comedy and the strangeness of it - a US general and an ancient alien sharing a mouth and disagreeing in public. He becomes the effective liaison between Earth and the Tok'ra, which means he spends years brokering between two allies who do not trust each other and being blamed by both. The reconciliation with his daughter, worked out slowly across several seasons, is one of the more genuinely earned relationships in the series.

Jacob is dominant Te, and he is a good illustration of it because the show gives him a situation where the function is tested rather than flattered. The auxiliary Si is why the estrangement is so entrenched. He has an exact, accumulated record of how a career is built, how a family behaves, and what he did and did not do after his wife died, and he applies it without much room for revision. Why does Jacob Carter accept a symbiote?
Because Te makes the assessment and Te does not flinch from an unpalatable answer. He is dying, there is a solution, the solution is bizarre, and the calculation is not difficult. What is difficult is the tertiary Ne he has to summon to accept a proposition this far outside anything he has ever encountered, and the show is honest that he manages it because the alternative is death rather than because he finds it easy. The inferior Fi is the whole emotional architecture of the character: everything he actually feels about his daughter is unavailable to him in words, and the series eventually solves it by giving him a second voice in his own head that has no such difficulty.

He is a negotiator and a commander, and the role the show gives him is the one that requires being in rooms with people who disagree with him. He argues, brokers and pushes, and he is visibly energised by it even when it is going badly.
His frame of reference is thirty years of concrete institutional experience, and he applies it to an interstellar alliance with only partial success. What he trusts is what he has personally seen work.
Told he is dying and offered an alien parasite as the cure, he weighs it and accepts. His decisions about his own life, his daughter's career and the alliance are all made on what the situation requires rather than on how anyone feels about it.
He wants matters settled, agreements written and chains of command clear, and the recurring source of his frustration with the Tok'ra is that they will not operate that way. Ambiguity is the condition he handles worst.
Why Jacob Carter Is ESTJ, Not ENTJ or ISTJ
ISTJ is the most common alternative for a career officer of that generation, and the procedural exactness fits. The difference is where he is comfortable. Jacob commands, negotiates, brokers and argues in rooms full of people, and the liaison role - the least private job in the programme - is the one he takes on and does well. The energy runs outward.
ENTJ is occasionally suggested because of the authority and the diplomacy. But he is not working from a long-range vision; he is applying an accumulated understanding of how institutions function, and his friction with the Tok'ra comes precisely from expecting an alliance to behave the way alliances have always behaved in his experience.
