Hermione Granger

Hermione puts her hand up before the question has been fully asked. She does not deliberate privately and then offer the answer when called on. She generates the answer and the hand goes up simultaneously, because the Te-Si combination produces the answer fast enough that the gap between knowing and announcing is negligible. Her most consistent classroom quality, the teacher who sometimes has to ask other students to answer first, is a result of the Te not having an internal mechanism for managing the gap between the correct answer being available and the correct answer being delivered. She is not performing eagerness. She is being constitutively, involuntarily outward with an interior that runs faster than social convention expects.

Her management of Harry and Ron across seven books is also extraverted in texture. She does not observe and wait. She organises, directs, identifies what each specific situation requires, and delivers the plan before the others have finished assessing the situation. S.P.E.W. is the most honest expression of this quality: she identifies a problem, she builds an institutional framework for addressing it, she drives the framework with the same energy she brings to every other project, and the gap between her experience of the problem's urgency and everyone else's is so wide that the organisation becomes a running joke. She is not wrong about the problem. She is constitutively extraverted about its solution.

She reads everything and retains everything. Her knowledge base is not iNtuitive synthesis from underlying patterns, it is accumulated specific knowledge from accumulated specific sources, organised and retrievable with the precision the Si dominant provides. When she needs to know something she has already read, she can locate the specific passage in the specific book on the specific shelf with a specificity that the iNtuitive's more gestalt relationship to knowledge does not produce. Her value to Harry is not visionary guidance. It is the accumulated record of what the available sources actually contain, accessed exactly when the specific present situation requires exactly that specific information.

Her approach to magic is also Sensing in structure. She masters each spell through correct execution of the known requirements, the specific wand movement, the specific pronunciation, the specific understanding of what the spell requires from the caster, rather than through an iNtuitive feel for what the magic is doing at a deeper structural level. She is excellent and reliable and occasionally surprised by the things that cannot be learned from books, because the Si library builds from what has been documented and the undocumented is genuinely outside its normal operating range. She learns to expand that range across the series. The expansion requires encountering specific undocumented things and adding them to the library. The library grows. The ESTJ grows with it.

She was right about Scabbers for three books before anyone believed her. The Te's assessment of the available evidence, the rat's unusual age, the specific behaviour patterns, the specific things that did not add up against the Si library's accumulated knowledge of what normal rats do, had produced a verdict the others were not ready to accept because the verdict required revising a framework they preferred to maintain. The Te does not revise verdicts because the framework the verdict disrupts is important to the people around it. It produces the verdict from the assessment and delivers it. Three books later, the verdict was correct. The Te notes this with satisfaction and moves on.

Her treatment of Trelawney is the Te's most honest failure mode: the accurate assessor encountering a domain where the available evidence does not support the framework's standard, and the Te dismissing the domain rather than acknowledging that the standard may not apply. Divination is not the worst subject at Hogwarts because Trelawney is a bad teacher, though she often is. It is the worst subject because the Te cannot build an adequate assessment framework for a domain where the evidence is ambiguous and the expertise is uncheckable. The Te does not tolerate uncheckable expertise. The dismissal follows.

She does not skip steps. Every approach to every problem has a correct sequence, research, preparation, execution, and she follows the sequence regardless of the pressure to shortcut it. Harry's urgency and Ron's impatience produce continuous pressure to skip the research phase and go directly to the action. She resists. The Si library has the record of what happens when action precedes adequate preparation, and the Te implements the preparation as a requirement rather than an option. The first plan that bypasses the preparation phase, that goes to action without the research complete, is the plan that fails in the specific way the preparation was designed to prevent.

Her most defining act across the series is the one that requires the most sustained J-disposition commitment: modifying her parents' memories and sending them to Australia. She does not do this spontaneously. She has assessed what the coming conflict requires of the people she loves most who are most vulnerable, produced the verdict that the modification is necessary, and implemented it, completely, correctly, with the specific attention to detail the Te requires, before the conflict has fully arrived. The implementation destroys the relationship she is performing the implementation to protect. The J-disposition maintains the framework under that pressure because the synthesis requires it. She does what the synthesis required. She comes back for them when it is over. The framework was correct. The cost was correct. Both are held without revision.
