He takes Arrakis knowing it is a trap. The Ni synthesis has determined that refusing the fief would cost more than accepting it, the Fe has read the specific configuration of what refusal would produce for the specific people under his protection, and the Te has implemented the decision with the full knowledge that the implementation will cost him everything.
His relationship with Jessica is the inferior Se's most complete expression: the specific present-tense person, the specific quality of the specific relationship, the one variable the Ni synthesis had not fully accounted for in its model of what the Atreides position required. He did not marry her not from calculation but from the institutional constraints the Ni had assessed as non-negotiable. The inferior Se held the specific relationship with the completeness the inferior function provides for its specific objects. He loved her. The Ni's institutional requirements prevented the marriage. His death - the assassin's tooth, the failed attempt to take the Baron with him, the specific configuration of the imperial trap's completion - is the ENFJ's most complete portrait of the type's most specific failure mode: the Fe read every person in the room correctly and the Ni synthesised every available institutional variable accurately, and the trap still closed because the synthesis had not modelled the specific person who was willing to die to deliver the lethal instrument. The Fe cannot read the person who has already accepted their own death as a variable.
Why Duke Leto Atreides Is ENFJ, Not INFJ or ENFP
Leto is sometimes typed ISTJ - the institutional loyalty, the duty, the apparent conservative management of the Atreides legacy. But ISTJ operates from accumulated precedent. Leto consistently makes decisions that violate established Atreides precedent - the Arrakis decision, the Fremen alliance strategy, the decision to trust Thufir Hawat's specific loyalty over the institutional security protocols - because the Fe has read the specific people and the Ni has synthesised what the specific configuration requires, regardless of what the accumulated institutional precedent says.
The INTJ argument comes from the private strategy, the comprehensive model of the Imperium's political landscape. But INTJ's vision is implemented through Te with the Fe secondary. Leto's vision is always held in relation to the specific people it is for - the Atreides household, the Fremen, Paul specifically - and the Fe provides the attunement that makes the vision legible to the people it requires. The vision serves the people. For the INTJ, the people serve the vision.
The clincher is his speech to the Fremen. He has assembled the most complete available political intelligence about Arrakis before the Atreides arrival. He could deliver the speech as a strategic communication. He delivers it as a genuine acknowledgment of the specific people's specific reality, because the Fe has read the specific configuration of what the Fremen require to hear and the Ni has synthesised that the only available instrument for the Fremen alliance is the truth. He is not performing the acknowledgment. The Fe read the room. The Ni synthesised the required response. The Te delivered it.
