Alia Atreides
Alia Atreides is INTJ. Frank Herbert's cruellest invention: a child who was conscious in the womb when her mother took the Water of Life, and who therefore arrives in the world already carrying the complete memories of every ancestor in her line. She is a toddler with the minds of thousands of adults in her head, and no adult of her own to hold them in place. The Bene Gesserit have a word for what she is and it is not a compliment. They call her Abomination, and they are right.
Who Is Alia Atreides?
Alia is the daughter of Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica, and Paul's younger sister, in Frank Herbert's Dune. She was conceived before the Harkonnen attack and was still in the womb when Jessica underwent the Water of Life ordeal to become a Reverend Mother - a process that opens the full ancestral memory of every woman in the line. Alia was exposed to all of it before she was born.
The result is what the Bene Gesserit call pre-born, or, less politely, Abomination. She emerges as an infant with the accumulated consciousness of thousands of adults available to her, and the Sisterhood's position on this is not squeamishness: their entire training exists to give an adult ego the strength to hold those voices without being taken over by one, and a child has no such ego to give.
What happens to Alia?
She is formidable almost immediately - she kills the Baron Harkonnen, her own grandfather, as a small child - and after Paul walks into the desert she becomes Regent of the empire, ruling in the name of his twins. She holds it for years. What eventually happens is exactly what the Sisterhood warned of: one of the ancestral personalities in her, the Baron himself, gains ground, offering counsel that becomes control, and by Children of Dune she is no longer reliably herself. Her nephew Leto II names the condition, and she ends by throwing herself from a window rather than continue as what she has become. It is the most frightening thing in the sequence because it is the only fate in it that could not have been avoided by a better decision.

Alia is dominant Ni operating with more raw material than any human mind was built to hold. Ni synthesises - it takes an enormous quantity of input and produces one organising picture - and hers has the direct memory of thousands of lives to work from. That is why she is so effective so young: she is not precocious, she is drawing on a depth of pattern that nobody around her can match, and her assessments of situations are correct in ways that unnerve everyone.
The auxiliary Te is what she does with it, and she is good at it. The Regency is a functioning administration for years - priesthood, bureaucracy, security apparatus, an empire held together in the absence of the messiah who created it. She is not a child playing at power; she is running the largest political structure in the universe, competently, while under a psychological pressure nobody has ever survived.
Why does Alia lose?
Because the tertiary Fi is where the ancestral voices get in, and hers had no time to form. An INTJ's feeling function is private, absolute and largely unexaminable from inside, which is the ideal foothold for a personality that wants to be mistaken for your own conviction. The Baron does not overpower her; he agrees with her, flatters her, offers exactly the counsel her position seems to require, and by the time she can identify which impulses are hers it is too late. The inferior Se is the rest of it: she has almost no capacity to be present in her own body and her own moment, which is precisely the ground on which a person might otherwise stand to resist.

The decisive events of her life happen entirely inside her, and nobody else can see any of them. Her defeat is a private conversation with a dead man that lasts years, and by the time it is visible from outside it is finished.
She synthesises across thousands of lifetimes of memory, which is why a child can outmanoeuvre imperial politicians. Her readings of a situation arrive whole and are almost always right, which is exactly what makes them impossible to argue with.
She built and ran a religious bureaucracy and a security apparatus and used both without sentiment, against her own family included. The Regency works because she is prepared to make decisions that nobody else in the room will make.
She closes and executes - the killing of the Baron as a child, the assumption of the Regency, and finally the decision to end it herself rather than continue as something she has judged intolerable.
Why Alia Atreides Is INTJ, Not INFJ or ENTJ
INFJ is sometimes suggested because of the visionary quality and the tragedy of her arc. The difference is the auxiliary. Ni with Fe orients the vision toward people; Alia's Regency is administered through structures - a priesthood, a bureaucracy, an intelligence service - and her handling of individuals, including her own family, is instrumental to the point of cruelty.
ENTJ is occasionally proposed because she governs an empire. But she is a profoundly internal figure whose real life is a war conducted inside her own skull, and her rule is exercised at a distance, through apparatus, by someone who becomes progressively less able to be in a room with anyone at all.
