Doctor Strange
Stephen Strange is INTJ. He was the best neurosurgeon in the world before the accident, and the accident strips away everything except the part that was always real: the need to understand how things work and the belief that understanding is the path to control. His turn to sorcery is the INTJ finding a new domain large enough for the framework. His time-loop against Dormammu - dying and returning until the entity agrees simply to stop - is the INTJ running a calculation, accepting its conclusion, and executing without deviation: I can do this longer than you can. He is correct. It works. His "I went forward in time to view alternate futures. I saw fourteen million, six hundred and five" is the INTJ who has already done the analysis and is waiting for everyone else to catch up to the conclusion.
Doctor Strange and the INTJ Mind
Doctor Strange is INTJ. The type is defined by a hierarchy of cognitive functions - not a checklist of traits but an ordered stack of mental processes that determines how someone perceives the world and how they make decisions. For Doctor Strange, that stack leads with Ni (Introverted Intuition) and is supported by Te (Extraverted Thinking). Understanding that order explains not just what Doctor Strange does but why - and why they respond the way they do under pressure, in relationships, and at the turning points of their arc.
Doctor Strange operates from a private internal model that most people around them never fully see. The dominant function is Ni (Introverted Intuition) - a pattern-synthesis process that works beneath the surface, assembling observations into long-range convictions that arrive complete rather than argued. Doctor Strange often knows where something is heading before anyone else does, and acts on that knowledge without needing to explain it, because the Ni process is not easily externalised. Te (Extraverted Thinking) as the auxiliary channels the vision into structure, systems, and decisive action: the model produces a plan, the plan produces results, and the results are evaluated against the model rather than against what anyone else expected. The result is a character who appears certain, independent, and difficult to redirect - because they usually are. The vulnerability is the inferior Se (Extraverted Sensing): Doctor Strange can be blindsided by present-tense physical realities that the model did not account for, or become dangerously detached from the immediate world while living entirely inside the internal architecture.
What makes Doctor Strange a compelling example of INTJ is not that they demonstrate every item on the type description, but that the function stack holds under pressure. In the moments that define their story in Marvel - the decisions under stress, the failures of judgment, the rare moments of genuine growth - the pattern is consistent. The dominant function is what Doctor Strange reaches for first. The inferior function is what catches them off guard.

Doctor Strange's INTJ profile is the MCU's most precise portrait of the type encountering the one category of problem that the Ni-Te combination cannot solve efficiently: a problem that requires accepting the cost before the framework can determine whether the cost will produce the outcome. His origin - the surgeon who controls every variable, who refuses to take cases he might lose - is the INTJ before the function stack has been tested by genuine uncertainty. The car accident is the inferior Se arriving at full force: the present-tense physical reality that no amount of Ni synthesis predicted.
His study of the mystic arts is the INTJ doing what the INTJ does with a new domain: synthesising it completely before attempting to apply it. Kamar-Taj's frustration with him is the institution encountering the INTJ's constitutive inability to attempt before understanding. He is not being difficult; the Ni dominant cannot implement what it has not synthesised, and the synthesis requires time that the institution does not believe it should take. He surpasses everyone when the synthesis is complete, which was always going to happen and which the institution kept treating as surprising.
His sacrifice of the Time Stone - "we're in the endgame now" - is the INTJ who has run the fourteen million simulations and found the one path. He does not explain. He does not need to. The Ni has synthesised the outcome and the Te is implementing it. The silence is the type at its most complete: the vision is clear, the cost is accepted, the implementation has begun.
Why Doctor Strange Is INTJ, Not INFJ or ENTJ
Strange is sometimes typed ENTJ - the command, the institutional authority, the visible leadership of the Avengers in later films. But ENTJ builds outward naturally and inhabits leadership from the start. Strange's leadership is reluctant and private - he prefers to operate from his own assessment rather than from the group's consensus, and he accepts institutional roles only when the Ni synthesis determines they are necessary. ENTJ would have lobbied for the Sorcerer Supreme title. Strange was handed it and accepted the obligation.
The INTP argument comes from his analytical precision, his apparent preference for understanding over action in his early training. But INTP builds Ti frameworks to understand situations. Strange builds Ni syntheses to determine what situations require. The direction is different: Ti analyses what is; Ni determines what must be done. Strange is not curious about the mystic arts; he is mastering them because the framework has determined that mastery is what his situation requires.
The clincher is the time loop with Dormammu. He does not find a strategy that defeats Dormammu. He finds the one condition under which Dormammu's own preferences produce the required outcome, and he sustains that condition indefinitely at personal cost. That is Ni-Te: the synthesis identified the leverage, the Te implemented the repetition, and the inferior Se endured the dying - repeatedly - because the framework had already determined it was correct. An ENTJ would have found a more efficient resolution. Strange found the only resolution. That precision is Ni.
