WALL-E
WALL-E is INFP. He has been alone for centuries, collecting things he finds beautiful, replaying Hello Dolly, and tending to a small plant with the care of someone who has never stopped believing that beauty and growth are worth preserving. When EVE arrives, his response is entirely felt rather than calculated - the INFP who has never performed his feelings because there has been no one to perform them for, and who therefore has no mechanism for concealment. WALL-E is INFP. He has been alone for seven hundred years. The dominant function has been building an interior library of the world - the Rubik's cube, the Hello, Dolly footage, the specific accumulated objects the Fi has designated as worth preserving - with no external validation for any designation. He curates from the interior standard because the interior standard is all that is available. That is the INFP in its most essential form.
His love for EVE is the Ne-Fi combination at its most immediate and its most complete: the Se encounters the specific present-tense entity and the Ne generates every available connection to what the entity represents - the Hello, Dolly sequence, the hand-holding, the specific quality of being not-alone - and the Fi endorses the complete package before the inferior Te has had any opportunity to evaluate the feasibility of a romantic relationship between a small waste-collection robot and a sleek apple-white survey drone. He is already in love. The interior decided immediately. The exterior world's assessment of the configuration is not the relevant consideration.
His persistence across the film - following EVE to the Axiom, surviving the vacuum of space, remembering EVE while his memory is being overwritten - is the Fi dominant in its most complete expression: the interior assessment of what the specific person requires is maintained against every available external force, including the physical destruction of the substrate, because the interior is the primary reality and the interior's requirements are non-negotiable.
Why WALL-E Is INFP, Not ISFP or INFJ
WALL-E is sometimes typed ISFP - the apparent present-tense quality, the physical engagement, the aesthetic sensibility. But ISFP is Fi-Se: the values are grounded in immediate physical engagement. WALL-E's values are Ne-generated from the accumulated interior record: the Hello, Dolly footage provides the template for what love should be, the collected objects provide the standard for what is worth preserving, the interior library supplies the criteria for every significant judgment. The Se is present but the Ne's accumulated connections are what generate the valuations.
The ENFP argument comes from the warmth and the relational orientation. But ENFP's Ne generates possibilities about what could be. WALL-E's Ne generates connections between what is and what the accumulated interior has recorded as valuable. He does not imagine what his relationship with EVE could become. He finds in EVE the connection the interior had been building toward from the Hello, Dolly footage. The connection was always there in the record. EVE completed the circuit.
The clincher is his cube. He has kept a Rubik's cube - unsolved - for seven hundred years. Not because the puzzle is interesting (INTP would have solved it) or because it represents a challenge (ESTP would have engaged it physically). Because the Fi designated it as worth keeping and the inferior Te never produced a framework for what "keeping" should accomplish. He keeps it because keeping it is the right thing. That is the INFP's most complete relationship to the accumulated interior record: the standard is interior, the keeping is faithful, and the external utility of the kept object is not the relevant consideration.
