Eowyn
Eowyn is ISFP. Tolkien gives her the most contained position in The Lord of the Rings - a king's niece in a hall going quietly to rot, told to stay behind and govern while the men ride - and then has her put on armour, ride anyway under a false name, and kill the thing no man could kill. Her answer when the Witch-king tells her that no living man may hinder him is not a speech. She takes off the helmet and says she is no man, and then she does it.
Who Is Eowyn?
Eowyn is a noblewoman of Rohan in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, sister of Eomer and niece of King Theoden. She is introduced in a hall where her uncle has been reduced to a shell under the influence of Grima Wormtongue, and where she has been nursing him and enduring Grima's attention with no way out of either. When Gandalf frees Theoden and the men prepare to ride, she is asked to stay behind and lead the people who remain.
Aragorn's reading of her is the most precise thing anyone says about her: that she is a woman of a house of kings who does not wish to be a dry-nurse, that she was born with the courage of her brother and no permission to spend it, and that she fears a cage more than she fears death.
What does Eowyn do at the Pelennor Fields?
She disguises herself as a rider called Dernhelm, carries the hobbit Merry with her against orders, and goes to the battle. When the Witch-king of Angmar, the chief of the Nazgul, comes down on Theoden and declares that no living man may hinder him, she stands over her dying uncle, takes off her helmet and tells him that she is no living man. Merry stabs the creature behind the knee and she drives her sword into its face, and it ends. She nearly dies of it. She recovers in the Houses of Healing, meets Faramir there, and makes the decision that has divided readers for seventy years: she gives up being a shieldmaiden, saying she will be a healer and love things that grow rather than desire to be a queen.

Eowyn: What the ISFP Profile Explains
Eowyn is dominant Fi, and Tolkien writes it with unusual precision for a writer often accused of thin interiority. Everything about her is internal, unspoken and absolute: the despair in Meduseld, the love for Aragorn that she never states and he has to name for her, the refusal to accept a role assigned to her. Nobody in the book knows what she is thinking until she has already acted on it.
The auxiliary Se is what makes her decisive rather than merely anguished. She does not petition, argue or organise a case for being allowed to fight. She gets armour, takes a horse and goes, and when the moment arrives she is physically equal to it. Fi settles what is unbearable and Se does something about it in the world.
Why does Eowyn give up the sword?
Because Fi decides, and it is her own decision rather than an imposition, whatever readers wish. The tertiary Ni surfaces in the Houses of Healing as a growing understanding of what she had actually been seeking - she names it herself, that she desired renown and glory and to be lifted above the mean things of the world, and that this was a kind of death-wish rather than a life. The inferior Te is the reason the cage was intolerable in the first place: administration, stewardship and the governance of a household are exactly what she was offered and exactly what she has no capacity to find meaning in.

She says almost nothing about any of it. The despair, the love, the plan to ride in disguise - all of it is carried privately, and Aragorn has to tell her what she feels because she has no habit of saying it aloud.
Her answer to an impossible situation is physical and immediate: armour, a horse, a sword, a helmet removed at exactly the right second. She is a fighter of real quality and the book makes her competence concrete rather than symbolic.
Every choice she makes comes from a private verdict about what she can and cannot live inside. Fearing a cage more than death is a values statement, and it drives her to the Pelennor and, afterwards, away from it.
She does not seek permission or build a case; she acts and presents the result. The whole Dernhelm episode is a decision taken quietly and executed without consulting anyone, which is the opposite of how everyone else in Rohan operates.
Why Eowyn Is ISFP, Not INFP or ISTP
ISFJ is the most common alternative, given the caretaking and the loyalty to her house. The difference is what she does with duty. An Si-Fe woman in that hall would have stayed, because the role and the accumulated obligation would hold. Eowyn's refusal is a private moral verdict against the role itself, and she acts on it in direct defiance of her king's order.
ISTP is occasionally suggested because of the martial competence and the reticence. But her decisions are not analytical. She rides to the battle for reasons she describes in terms of despair, love and unbearable confinement, and the Witch-king moment is not a tactical read of an opening but a woman refusing a claim about what she is.
