Who Is Stevie Nicks?
Stephanie Lynn Nicks was born on 26 May 1948 in Phoenix, Arizona. The nickname came from her own toddler attempt at her name. She met Lindsey Buckingham at high school in California, and the two of them recorded Buckingham Nicks in 1973, which sold badly enough that Polydor dropped them.
On 31 December 1974 Mick Fleetwood asked Buckingham to join Fleetwood Mac. Buckingham said only if Nicks came too. The self-titled album they made in 1975 broke the band worldwide and carried two of her songs, Rhiannon and Landslide. Rumours followed in 1977 and became one of the best-selling albums ever made, largely because everyone in the band was ending a relationship with someone else in the band while recording it. Her contribution, Dreams, is still the only Fleetwood Mac single ever to reach number one in the United States. Her own account of that period includes a brief affair with Mick Fleetwood in late 1977 that she has said nearly finished the group.
What happened to Stevie Nicks after Fleetwood Mac?
She did both at once. Bella Donna, her solo debut, came out on 27 July 1981 and went straight to number one, and Rolling Stone started calling her the reigning queen of rock and roll. The cost arrived alongside it. Her cocaine use through the late seventies and eighties was heavy enough that a plastic surgeon told her it could kill her, and she checked into the Betty Ford Center in 1986. What followed was worse: a doctor prescribed Klonopin to prevent relapse, and she has described losing eight years to it, saying plainly that it was worse than the cocaine. A forty-seven day detox at the end of 1993 ended that. Dreams is addressed to Buckingham while he is standing in the room playing on it. The tertiary Te shows in how ruthlessly professional she was about that - she kept writing, kept touring, and built a parallel solo career on top of it while the band was barely functioning. The inferior Si is the other half of the story: routine, physical maintenance and the slow accumulation of bodily consequence are the ENFP's blind spot, and the eight Klonopin years are the most literal version of that blind spot anyone in rock has described in public.

She ran a solo career and a band career simultaneously at the point when both were at their most demanding, and she has never had a quiet decade. The performing self is not a costume she puts on reluctantly; the shawls, the twirl and the persona are energising to her rather than depleting.
