His trademark move - the split-second improvisation that saves everything - is Ne-Ti at maximum output: the situation has produced a new variable, the Ne has already generated fifteen possible responses, the Ti has evaluated them in the same moment, and the Se auxiliary is implementing the correct one before the Ti has consciously completed the evaluation. Why Ethan Hunt Is ENFP, Not ENTP or INFP
Ethan is sometimes typed ISTP - the physical competence, the tactical intelligence, the apparent improvisation. But ISTP is Ti-Se: the framework is primary and the Se executes it. Ethan's intelligence is Ne-first: he generates the angle before the Ti evaluates it, and the angle generation is what makes each mission possible. He does not analyse the situation and derive the correct response (ISTP). He generates the alternative the situation hasn't presented yet (Ne) and then confirms it with Ti. That generative-first sequence is ENTP/ENFP, not ISTP.
The INTJ argument comes from the advance preparation - the masks, the technology, the elaborate mission architecture that each film begins with. But INTJ prepares from Ni synthesis: the plan is built around the convergent vision. Ethan's plans are Ne-built: they are the most interesting available architecture for the specific situation, and they always fail, which is not an INTJ failure mode (INTJs build contingencies) but an ENFP feature (the plan is the starting point for the improvisation).
