Moana
Moana is ENFP. Disney's 2016 film, directed by John Musker and Ron Clements with Auli'i Cravalho in the title role, gives its heroine a father who has forbidden anyone to sail past the reef and an ocean that keeps choosing her anyway. Her grandmother shows her a cave full of the voyaging ships their ancestors hid, and the film's real subject arrives with it: her people were navigators who stopped, and what she is actually restoring is not a stone but a way of being.

Moana is the protagonist of Moana, released by Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2016 and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. She is voiced by Auli'i Cravalho, with Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Rachel House as her grandmother Tala and Temuera Morrison as her father Tui. She is the daughter of the chief of Motunui, and she has been drawn to the water since she could walk.
Her father's rule is absolute: nobody goes beyond the reef. It is presented as safety and turns out to be fear, and the film treats it seriously rather than as a simple obstacle - Tui has his own reason, and it is a good one.
What is Moana's quest?
The demigod Maui stole the heart of the goddess Te Fiti long ago, and the consequence is now arriving at Motunui as blight: the coconuts are rotting, the fish are gone. The ocean itself selects Moana and gives her the stone. Her grandmother Tala takes her to a hidden cavern full of enormous voyaging canoes and tells her the truth her father has suppressed, which is that their people were wayfinders who crossed the whole Pacific before they stopped, and then gives her the heart and dies. Moana sails, finds Maui, and the two of them teach each other - she learns navigation, he relearns why he ever cared. The turn at the end is the good one: the lava demon Te Ka, which has been trying to kill them, is Te Fiti herself, unrecognisable because her heart was taken. Moana walks up to her and gives it back.

Moana is dominant Ne, and the film locates it precisely: she is the one person on the island who cannot stop asking what is out there. Not because she is discontented with Motunui - the film is careful that she loves it and intends to lead it - but because a boundary presents itself to her as a question rather than as a fact. Everyone else sees a reef. She sees the edge of something unexamined.
The auxiliary Fi is what makes her persist through a middle act in which she is bad at all of this. She capsizes, is humiliated, is told plainly by Maui that she is not a wayfinder, and goes back out. What holds is a private certainty about who she is that does not require anyone to confirm it, and the song at the low point is explicitly about that - the voice inside, which is her own rather than anyone else's.
Why is the ending significant?
Because Ne with Fi arrives at a solution nobody in the story has considered, and it is not a fight. The entire construction of the third act sets up a battle with a monster, and Moana looks at the monster and recognises what it is. That reframe - the enemy is the injured party - is exactly what a dominant Ne produces when it is anchored by a value system that will not accept the obvious reading. Her tertiary Te is visible in how competently she actually captains a boat by the end, and her inferior Si in the film's whole premise: a people who forgot their own accumulated knowledge, and a girl who has to physically rediscover it in a cave.
Moana: ENFP Letter by Letter
She engages everything: the ocean, the village, a demigod who does not want her there, a lava monster. Her instinct in every situation is to go toward it and start talking, and she wears Maui down largely by refusing to leave.
She is the only person on the island for whom the reef is a question. The film's climax turns on her seeing what a monster actually is when everyone else, including the demigod, sees only something to be fought.
She keeps going after being told she cannot do it, by the ocean, by Maui and by her own failures, on the strength of a private certainty about who she is. The song at her lowest point is about a voice inside rather than about anyone's expectations.
She leaves with no plan, no navigation and no idea where she is going, and works it out on the water. The whole film is a case for setting out before you are ready, which is either the best or the worst advice Disney has ever given.
Why Moana Is ENFP, Not ENTP or INFP
ENFJ is sometimes suggested because she is a chief's daughter who leads her people. The difference is what drives her. An Fe-dominant Moana would be responding to what the village needs and calibrating to it; this one defies her father, leaves the island against the express wishes of everyone in it, and is right. The conviction is internal and it precedes any support for it.
