Why Hester Prynne Is INFP, Not ISFP or INFJ
Hester is sometimes typed ISFJ - the apparent duty, the quiet persistence, the care for Pearl and for Dimmesdale across years of hardship. But ISFJ's care is grounded in accumulated precedent and directed outward through Fe. Hester's care is Fi-primary: the specific person, the specific interior conviction about what that person deserves, maintained from a value system the external world cannot access. The ISFJ would have found a way to comply with the community while maintaining private reservations. Hester does not have a long-range synthesis about where her situation is going.
