Hercule Poirot is INTJ where Holmes is INTP. He uses his "little grey cells" to build a complete internal model of the crime before he moves - the Ni dominant synthesising every available pattern into a singular conclusion - and he does not share his working until the reveal, because the INTJ does not need external validation of the process, only of the result. His theatrical denouements - everyone in a room, the explanation delivered in sequence - are Te: here is the system, here is how it produced the outcome, here is who is responsible. His fastidiousness, his symmetry obsession, his horror at inefficiency: the INTJ's physical environment as an extension of internal order. His willingness to commit a murder himself, in Curtain, to prevent a greater evil, is the INTJ's most consistent position: the framework can justify anything if the logic is sound.

Te (Extraverted Thinking) as the auxiliary channels the vision into structure, systems, and decisive action: the model produces a plan, the plan produces results, and the results are evaluated against the model rather than against what anyone else expected. The result is a character who appears certain, independent, and difficult to redirect - because they usually are. The vulnerability is the inferior Se (Extraverted Sensing): Hercule Poirot can be blindsided by present-tense physical realities that the model did not account for, or become dangerously detached from the immediate world while living entirely inside the internal architecture.

He does not gather clues in the way Sherlock Holmes gathers clues - exhaustively, from first principles, testing each hypothesis against the evidence. He uses the little grey cells: the Ni synthesis runs on the pattern of human behaviour, assembles the complete picture from significantly fewer inputs than Holmes requires, and produces the conclusion before the evidence is adequate by any conventional investigative standard. He then gathers the evidence to confirm the synthesis, because the Te requires the confirmation even when the Ni is already certain.
His famous gathering of the suspects - the drawing room finale, everyone present, the revelation structured as a performance - is the Fe auxiliary making its one sustained appearance in the investigation: the Ni synthesis delivered through a social ritual that gives each affected person their specific role in the revelation. He does not announce the murderer privately and let the authorities handle the rest (INTJ logic would prefer this). He performs the revelation because the Fe has determined that the specific people involved require the specific ritual of being witnessed in their guilt or their innocence. The performance is Fe. The synthesis is Ni. The evidence is Te.
"The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to the seeker after it." That is the INTJ's relationship to accuracy: the Ni synthesis pursues the true pattern regardless of what the pattern contains, and the Te validates the synthesis with whatever confirmatory evidence the investigation requires. He is not interested in justice as an abstract principle. He is interested in the pattern being correct, which the Te then implements through the available institutional instrument.
Why Hercule Poirot Is INTJ, Not INFJ or ENTJ
Poirot is sometimes typed INTP - the analytical precision, the apparent comfort with abstract thinking, the intellectual framework. But INTP builds Ti frameworks and tests them iteratively. Poirot produces the synthesis in advance of adequate evidence and then confirms it - a Ni operation, not a Ti one. His "little grey cells" do not analyse; they synthesise. The analysis is what the Te performs afterward to confirm what the Ni already produced. The direction is convergent-first, analytical-second, which is Ni-Te.
The ENFJ argument comes from his warmth with witnesses, his apparent social attunement, his ability to extract confessions through relational engagement. But ENFJ's warmth is Fe primary: it reads the specific person and responds to what they need. Poirot's engagement with witnesses is Ni-directed: he has already synthesised what the specific person knows and what they will reveal under the correct conditions, and the Fe auxiliary provides the warmth that creates those conditions. The warmth serves the synthesis. For the ENFJ, the synthesis serves the warmth.
The clincher is the Orient Express solution. He identifies every guilty party, constructs the complete synthesis of the collaborative murder, and then - unusually - determines not to report it to the authorities. That decision is the Fe auxiliary finally running a verdict that overrides the Te's institutional protocol: these specific people, in this specific configuration, produced a justice the institutions could not. He lets them go. The INTJ whose inferior function finally provides data that the Ni synthesis cannot fully process without revising the Te implementation: that is the Orient Express, and it is Poirot's most honest portrait.
