Anakin Skywalker was not introverted in the same way. He externalised freely, the frustration, the ambition, the love for Padme, with a quality that the institutional framework found difficult to manage. The transformation into Vader is partly the Introvert's architecture taking over from the Extraverted tendencies that produced Anakin's most characteristic failures. Vader conceals where Anakin disclosed. Vader maintains where Anakin broke. The suit is partly the Si library's accumulated record of what the disclosure cost, finally producing a structure that prevents the disclosure from happening again.
Vader's Force sense is the Se dominant's most complete fictional extension: he reads the immediate configuration of every environment he enters, every person he encounters, every threat before it has fully materialised, with an accuracy that is not available to characters relying on inference or strategic analysis. He knew Obi-Wan was on the Death Star before the security systems detected him. He knew Luke was his son before Luke knew it. He reads what is actually present, not what the strategic framework suggests should be present, not what the institutional hierarchy has determined the situation contains, but what the Force's direct reading of the present-tense configuration produces. The Se and the Force are, in his case, the same instrument.
His most defining physical quality is the one the suit provides: continuous, total presence in the body. The breathing, the rhythm, the specific weight of the suit in every scene. He does not float or gesture abstractly. He occupies the space he is in with a physical density that the Se dominant produces when the body is fully present. The suit forces an extreme version of this, every physical action requires conscious effort in a way that an unimpaired body does not, and the result is a character who is more physically present than almost anyone around him because the present-tense physical reality is permanently and inescapably the primary thing.
He kills Captain Needa for the failure to stop the Millennium Falcon. He kills Admiral Ozzel for coming out of hyperspace too close to Hoth. He kills Moff Tarkin in spirit by allowing the Death Star to be destroyed through the specific decisions that the Te had the authority to override and did not. Each of these is a Te assessment of performance against the standard the mission requires, with the implementation being whatever response the Te determines the assessment warrants. The inferior Fi is not absent. It registers what each specific death costs the specific person dying. The Te continues regardless. The mission requires a specific standard. The standard is primary.
His handling of Luke across the original trilogy is the Thinking function's most complete conflict with its inferior. The Te has assessed that Luke is either an asset or a threat and the synthesis requires bringing him to the Emperor either way. The inferior Fi has a prior designation that the Te cannot override, the son, the specific person the function has held as primary through twenty years of suppression. The entire third act of Return of the Jedi is the Te and the inferior Fi running simultaneously at full capacity, producing the only decision the function hierarchy can ultimately reach: the Fi's designation is primary, the Te implements what the designation requires, the Emperor dies.
He committed to a framework twenty years before the original trilogy begins, and the commitment has not been revised despite everything the twenty years have cost. The framework was Palpatine's, the Sith path, the Empire, the specific bargain that promised to save Padme and delivered her death. The Si library has the record of what the framework cost. The Te continues implementing the framework anyway, because the J-disposition does not abandon a commitment because the commitment's cost has exceeded the cost that was anticipated when the commitment was made. The cost was registered. The commitment was maintained. The framework holds even when the framework is the thing that has made everything worse.
His redemption is the J-disposition's most honest revision event: the Si library finally accumulates enough evidence. Luke's specific presence, the specific quality of what Luke represents about what Anakin was before the commitment was made, to produce a verdict that the prior framework cannot survive. The revision does not come from abstract principle or argument. It comes from what the specific person in the specific present moment produces in the function that has been suppressed for twenty years and cannot be suppressed for this specific encounter. Anakin Skywalker kills the Emperor because the J-disposition's framework has finally been revised from the inside. The revision required the specific person. Luke is the specific person. The revision happens.
Why Darth Vader Is ISTJ, Not ISFJ or INTJ
Darth Vader is sometimes typed as ISFJ or INTJ. The confusion is understandable: Darth Vader can seem as quietly caring as an ISFJ or as strategically far-sighted as an INTJ. But surface-level trait-matching is how typing errors accumulate. The cognitive function stack is what resolves them.
