His Se reads every available room with the heightened precision that combat produces - every threat, every opening, every configuration of the specific bodies in the specific space - and the Fi endorses the responses that the Se identifies as required with the complete investment of a person who has seen enough to know that the required response must be total or it is insufficient. He does not fight because he enjoys fighting. He fights because the Se identifies the correct response to specific threats and the Fi has no available instrument for withholding the response once the identification is made.
His faith - the conversion, the relationship with Linda - is the inferior Ni's most complete expression: the specific future the inferior function has been trying to generate since France, where the violence ends and the person the Se is running through the violence becomes someone the Fi can fully endorse. Linda provided the framework the inferior Ni needed to generate the picture. The picture sustained him until it didn't. His eventual return to the Shelby operation is the inferior Ni acknowledging that the picture was not adequate to what the Se dominant actually is.
His love for Tommy is the Fi's most consistent and most costly investment: the specific brother, the specific relationship that the Se has been protecting since childhood and the Fi has recorded as the non-negotiable primary object. He does terrible things in service of Tommy's operation. The Fi knows they are terrible. The Fi also knows they are for Tommy. Both things are simultaneously true, and the ESFP's most consistent quality is that the Fi cannot prioritise the abstract moral standard over the specific person it has invested in.
Why Arthur Shelby Is ESFP, Not ENFP or ESTP
Arthur is sometimes typed ISTJ - the apparent loyalty, the institutional faithfulness to the Shelby operation, the consistency of his presence across seven seasons. But ISTJ operates from accumulated precedent. Arthur operates from the Se dominant's present-tense reading of what the specific situation in front of him requires, endorsed by the Fi's total investment in the specific people the situation contains. He is not loyal to the institution. He is loyal to Tommy, which looks the same from outside but operates differently from within.
The ESTP argument comes from the physical dominance, the tactical intelligence. But ESTP is Se-Ti: the present-tense reading analytically evaluated. Arthur's reading is Se-Fi: the situation assessed and immediately endorsed by the Fi before the Ti has produced an evaluation. His most characteristic moves are not analytically sound. They are emotionally required.
