Both take social customs seriously, both maintain their relationships with care, and both are genuinely attuned to the emotional states of people around them. The confusion between them occurs most often in people who see the warmth and the organization without looking closely enough at where each comes from.

ENFJs lead with Extroverted Feeling (Fe), which makes reading and actively managing the emotional landscape of groups their primary cognitive function. They are community-directed from the outset: their first instinct is outward, broad, and interpersonally mobilizing. Their Ni auxiliary gives them a forward-looking vision of where people and situations could go, which their Fe then works to inspire people toward. ISFJs lead with Introverted Sensing (Si), which grounds them in concrete accumulated experience and the rich private store of what they have known and valued. Their Fe auxiliary then directs that grounding outward toward care for specific people in their specific relationships. ENFJs care for the collective broadly; ISFJs care for individuals deeply.
