Your functions

Loading...

Every personality type runs on four mental tools called cognitive functions. Think of them like gears in an engine — each one does a different job, and they fire in a set order.

You use all four, but not equally. Your first function feels completely natural, almost effortless. Your second supports it. Your third is less reliable and tends to develop later in life. Your fourth is your weak spot — and often the source of your biggest stress.

Understanding your functions doesn't box you in. It just helps you see why certain things feel easy and others feel like work.

The four positions
1st — Dominant
Your lead
The function you use constantly, almost without noticing. It shapes how you naturally see the world and make decisions.
2nd — Auxiliary
Your support
Backs up your dominant. It balances you out and kicks in when your lead function alone isn't enough.
3rd — Tertiary
Your developing side
Present but unreliable. It tends to grow stronger as you get older and often shows up more in relaxed situations.
4th — Inferior
Your blind spot
The function you struggle with most. Under pressure it can take over in clumsy ways. Learning to work with it is a big part of personal growth.
