Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion thinks best in conversation and performs best in the room. The Battle of the Blackwater speech, delivered to a group of men who have every reason not to follow him into a suicidal defence of the city, works because the Ne is reading the specific configuration of what each specific person in that room needs to hear and generating the specific claim that speaks to it in real time. He is not delivering a prepared address. He is finding the argument as he delivers it, in the specific gap between what the men in front of him believe and what the situation requires them to do. That real-time generation, argument and audience simultaneously, each modifying the other as the speech proceeds, is the Extravert's most complete professional expression.

His drinking is also extraverted in the specific ENTP way: the wine lowers the threshold at which the Ne shares what it is generating, which means the most interesting Tyrion is usually the slightly drunk Tyrion who says what the sober Tyrion would have managed more carefully. He is not a different person when drinking. He is the same person with fewer filters between the generation and the delivery. The filters sometimes protect him. They also sometimes prevent him from saying the true and necessary thing until the wine has removed them. He is aware of this and uses it deliberately. The ENTP's relationship to its own process includes the awareness of how to optimise the conditions the process requires.

Tyrion reads political situations the way Sherlock reads crime scenes: faster than the situation has finished presenting itself, from angles no one else in the room has identified yet, generating the implication the available pieces imply before the conventional analysis has been completed. His management of King's Landing as Hand of the King is the Ne at full operational capacity: he identifies that Joffrey cannot be managed through normal channels, builds the alliance structure that compensates for Joffrey's instability, and positions each relevant party in relation to the others before any of them have finished deciding where they stand. He is operating three moves ahead. Most of the court is still deciding what the current move means.

His miscalculations are also iNtuitive in structure. The Ne generates possibilities so fast and the Ti confirms them so confidently that the cases where the initial assessment was wrong are not identified until the situation has already developed past the point where correction is available. He misreads Cersei's reach. He misreads Daenerys's stability. He generates an assessment, the Ti confirms it as internally consistent, and the assessment turns out to have missed a variable the Ti had insufficient data to include. The ENTP's most consistent failure mode is the confident incorrect assessment, wrong not from poor reasoning but from insufficient inputs, where the Ne generated a synthesis the Ti validated before the validation was fully warranted.

He tells people what is true rather than what they want to hear, and this quality has been getting him into trouble his entire life. He tells Joffrey the truth when Joffrey needs to be managed. He tells Daenerys the truth when Daenerys is in a position to burn him for it. He tells the court at his trial a truth that everyone in the room knows and no one will acknowledge. The Ti's relationship to accurate assessment is primary, and the accurate assessment is delivered regardless of what the delivery costs. He is not suicidal about it. He is strategic about when and how the truth is deployed. But the truth is always going to be deployed. The Ti does not hold accurate assessments indefinitely in service of better timing.

His management of the political landscape is systems-oriented rather than people-oriented in the ENTP way: he understands the structural forces, the incentive configurations, the specific pressure points that will produce the specific responses from the specific players. He manages people by understanding the system they are in rather than by reading the specific person they are. This works well when the system is stable enough to predict. It fails when a specific person does something the structural analysis would not have predicted, when Daenerys burns King's Landing, when Cersei miscalculates her own position, because the Ti's model had the system right and the person wrong.

His career is defined by adaptation to situations he did not plan for and would not have chosen. Born into the wrong family in the wrong body with the wrong relationships to survive in, he has built every advantage he has from what each specific situation offered rather than from a predetermined path toward a predetermined destination. His literacy, his wine expertise, his political education, his understanding of the city's infrastructure from the sewers up, all of these are the accumulation of a P-disposition that found what each available environment contained and extracted it completely, not because these were planned investments in a future career but because the Ne found each of them genuinely interesting and the Ti confirmed their value before there was a clear use case.

His arc in Seasons 7 and 8 is the P-disposition failing under J-oriented demands: Daenerys requires him to operate within a predetermined strategic framework, her conquest, her claim, her vision, and the Ne cannot produce its best work within that constraint. The P-disposition is at its best when the situation is open enough that the generation can run freely. When the framework has been settled by someone else and the P-disposition's role is execution rather than generation, the function has nothing to do. His advice gets worse as her grip on the framework gets tighter, not because he has become less intelligent but because the conditions the Ne requires to function well have been removed by the very institution he is supposed to be serving.
