Tyler, the Creator
Tyler, the Creator is ENTP. He built Odd Future as a teenager out of a message board, produced his own records because nobody else would, and spent his early career making material deliberately calculated to get him banned - which it did, from the United Kingdom, for several years. Then Flower Boy in 2017 changed the register entirely, and Igor won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2020, at which point he said publicly that the rap category felt like a backhanded compliment.
Who Is Tyler, the Creator?
Tyler Gregory Okonma was born on 6 March 1991 in Ladera Heights, California. He taught himself to produce, and in 2007 founded Odd Future - a loose collective of teenagers from Los Angeles that also produced Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt and Syd - by assembling people off a message board. He designed the artwork, directed the videos and produced the records himself from the start, which is the through-line of everything since.
The early material was engineered to provoke. Bastard in 2009 and Goblin in 2011 are full of deliberately grotesque content, and the response was what he had aimed at: he was barred from entering the United Kingdom for several years on the basis of his lyrics.
How did Tyler's music change?
Flower Boy in 2017 is the break. The production turned lush and melodic, the jazz and soul influences came forward, and the lyrics were read almost universally as an oblique coming out - a substantially different artist to the one who had built a career on shock. Igor followed in 2019 and won Best Rap Album at the 2020 Grammys, and his response in the press room was the most quoted thing he has said: that while he was grateful, being placed in the rap or urban category always felt like a politer way of saying a racial slur, because it is where Black artists get sorted regardless of what the record sounds like. Call Me If You Get Lost took the same award in 2022, and Chromakopia followed in 2024. He also runs the clothing line Golf Wang and the Camp Flog Gnaw festival.

He had just won, was standing in a press room, and said the true thing rather than the gracious one: that the rap category functions as a sorting mechanism for Black artists whatever the music actually sounds like. It was not a calculated intervention. It was an accurate observation delivered without any weighing of consequence, which is what this stack does when it is handed a microphone.

Why Tyler, the Creator Is ENTP, Not ENFP or INTJ
ENFP is sometimes suggested because of the emotional openness of the later records. The difference is the auxiliary. Ne with Fi produces an artist whose changes follow a personal value; Tyler's changes follow a structural question about what a record could be, and his instinct with any material is to build and control the whole apparatus rather than to express something already settled.
