Emmanuel Macron
Emmanuel Macron is ENTJ. He was an inspector of finances, then a Rothschild banker, then Hollande's economy minister; he resigned in August 2016, having founded his own movement four months earlier, and was President of France by May 2017 at thirty-nine - the youngest French head of state since Napoleon, elected without a party that had existed the year before. He has beaten Marine Le Pen twice. In June 2024 he dissolved the National Assembly and lost his majority.
Who Is Emmanuel Macron?
Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron was born on 21 December 1977 in Amiens, to two doctors. He studied philosophy at Nanterre, worked as an assistant to the philosopher Paul Ricoeur, went to Sciences Po and then to the École nationale d'administration, and became an inspector of finances. He left the civil service for Rothschild in 2008 and made a considerable amount of money, notably on Nestlé's acquisition of Pfizer's infant nutrition business.
He met Brigitte Auzière when he was fifteen and she was his drama teacher, twenty-four years older and married with three children. They married in 2007. It is the fact about him that the French press could never leave alone and that he has never shown the slightest interest in explaining.
How did Macron become president?
By building a vehicle rather than joining one. He was appointed economy minister under François Hollande in 2014, founded his own movement, En Marche, in April 2016, and resigned from the government that August to run. Neither of the two parties that had governed France for sixty years made the second round. He beat Marine Le Pen in May 2017 with 66 percent and beat her again in 2022, becoming the first French president to be re-elected in twenty years. His presidency has been defined by resistance: the gilets jaunes protests from late 2018, and the pension reform of 2023 raising the retirement age, forced through using article 49.3 without a vote. In June 2024 he responded to a European election defeat by dissolving the National Assembly, and the resulting parliament left him without a working majority.

Macron is dominant Te, and the route to the presidency is the function in its purest political form. Presented with a system in which power ran through two established parties, he did not work his way up either. He assessed what the office actually required - a movement, a funding structure, a candidate, a machine - and built it from nothing in twelve months. Te does not accept that the existing channels are the only channels; it asks what the objective needs and constructs it.
The auxiliary Ni is why the timing worked. He read the exhaustion of the French party system before anyone else was prepared to act on it, and his entire gamble depended on a forecast that both traditional parties would collapse simultaneously - which they did, on schedule, in his favour.
Why is Macron so unpopular in France?
Because Te drives decisions through and inferior Fi has almost no register for how that feels to the person on the receiving end. The pension reform was pushed through without a parliamentary vote because he had concluded it was necessary and the arithmetic did not permit one; the gilets jaunes began over a fuel tax that was defensible on paper and landed as contempt. His tertiary Se supplies the considerable personal presence and the appetite for confrontation - he goes into hostile crowds and argues - but the recurring criticism, that he is Jupiterian and does not listen, is a fair description of what this stack looks like from below.

But he is relentlessly outward: campaigning, debating, arguing with hecklers in market squares, running a movement built entirely on personal contact. The vision is real and it is in second position behind an operator.
